About Us


Shawna Ross, M.S., CCC-SLP (Owner)

Shawna received her Master of Science degree from the University of Nevada, Reno, with special emphasis on child language disorders, including Autism. Shawna's research and clinical work focuses on families from both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking backgrounds. In addition, she received the Outstanding Graduate Student award from the Medical School, and was awarded the Herz Gold Medal as the student in her graduating class.

Molly Duckett , M.S., CCC-SLP

Molly received her both her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a minor in developmental disabilities. She was the recipient of both the Senior Scholar and Outstanding Graduate Student Awards. While going to school, she worked as assistant and lead teacher at the university childcare center, serving children with autism, developmental disabilities, mental retardation, and speech and language disorders. Molly has experience developing individualized treatment plans for adolescents and adults with traumatic brain injury, acquired neurologic speech and language disorders, severe swallowing disorders, and behavioral issues. Molly recognizes that each child has the ability to succeed when given the right tools and motivation in combination with their unique learning style.

          

Christen Adams, M.S., CCC-SLP

Christen received both her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno. While obtaining her Bachelor’s degree, she completed three semesters of American Sign Language and is competent in her signing skills. She has experience with the evaluation and treatment of individuals with a variety of language and/or articulation disorders, including Rett Syndrome, Autism, hearing impairments, dysarthria, aphasia, stuttering, Down Syndrome, and developmental delays. She firmly believes in SSLG’s philosophy of family, play, and empowerment and its positive effects on a child’s communication skills.

Barb Jones, B.S., OTR/L

Barb received her Bachelor of Science in OT from The University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH. Over the past 20 years, she has focused her career on children in a variety of settings. Her experience includes work in acute care, a NICU, children’s rehabilitation, early intervention, and school systems.

Barb’s continuing education includes NDT (neuro-developmental) treatment, oral motor trainings, treatment of Sensory Processing Disorders, The ALERT Program, kinesiotaping, and Yoga for the Special Child. She is currently pursuing certification in iLs (Integrated Listening Systems). This is a listening program combined with movement, balance, and visual activities. It is designed to improve attention/ focus and help with sensory and learning difficulties.

 

 

 

Rhonda Serr, MOT, OTR/L

Rhonda received her Master of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Washington (Seattle), and her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in Health Ecology with a minor in Psychology.  She has received specialized training in the areas of autism, sensory integration, NDT, torticollis, and pediatric hand therapy and splinting.  Rhonda also has experience working as an occupational therapist at a residential facility in Argentina, and is continuing to develop her Spanish communication skills.  In her free time, Rhonda enjoys cycling and competing in various road race events across Northern Nevada and California.

Barbie Maher, Front Desk & Billing

Barbie has 20 years of retail and management experience including marketing, administration, and inventory audit. She has also been a Sound Reading Solutions Literacy Volunteer for Communities in Schools. Her dedication and tremendous work ethic are a great asset to the SSLG team. She is energetic, caring, patient, and fun loving.  Barbie has a sincere passion for children and a desire to make a positive difference in their lives. Barbie is married and the proud mother of two. She enjoys spending time with her family, playing softball, snow skiing, playing the piano, parent volunteer and baking for various fund raising events including The Children's Miracle Network.  

Karen Gotchy, Front Desk & Billing

Karen received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees at the University of Nevada, Reno in Geography. After graduating, she worked at Stanford University in the Office of Development and CLP Resources in Human Resources as a Worker's Compensation Manager. After taking a few years off to be with her two children she decided to rejoin the workforce part-time at Sierra Speech & Language Group. She loves meeting the families that are part of SSLG and enjoys supporting the therapists as they work with the children. In her spare time she and her family love to camp, hike, and play games. She is also a Girl Scout troop leader, room mom, and soccer coach.
